The positioning of your bed is very important
Your bed should be as far away from the door as possible but in a spot that still allows you to keep an eye on the room’s entrance – giving you a sense of safety and protection while you rest. The corner of the room, diagonally opposite the door, is usually best.
However, you also need to avoid having your feet directly in line with the door and your head under the bedroom window sill because according to Feng Shui says this can damage your liver.
In fact, you should avoid positioning your bed under a window at all because it lacks the symbolic support and protection of a solid wall and can lead to intermittent sleep as energy enters and exits through the windows. Also, try and avoid sleeping under beams, sloping ceilings and any other things that might hang down from your bedroom ceiling as these contain ‘depressing energy.’
If you have no choice a bed canopy or length of fabric suspended from the ceiling or beams is thought to be Feng Shui ‘cures’ for the problem. Likewise, headboards, especially solid wood ones, are considered good Feng Shui as they provide additional strength and support behind your head. Footboards, however, are seen as blocking forward progress in life.

- Opt for soft colours like light blue, greens and lavenders, which will give a more relaxed feel to the Feng Shui of a bedroom and provide a quiet, tranquil vibe and invite healing energy.
- Clear the clutter – this symbolizes unfinished business and hinders forward progress in life, clearing it will enable chi to flow freely around the room.
- Plants placed in corners will prevent energy from stagnating there.
- Don’t use the space under your bed for boxes – this will block energy and lead to stagnation in life.
- Get rid of anything that you associate with a negative time in your life.
- Clutter behind closed doors is a bad as clutter out in the open – so don’t just hide everything away in your wardrobe.
- Choose art and other objects that depict things you would like to see manifest in your life – this could mean hanging an inspiring piece of artwork in front of your bed, so it is the last thing you see at night and the first in the morning.
- Mirrors are bad for Feng Shui – you may want to consider draping them with fabric at night.
- Lighting is important – lots of natural light in the day, soft light in the evening and complete darkness while you sleep.
- Last but by no means least, remember, less is more!
