Decluttering Your Home

Tips and tricks to organise your wardrobe

Clutter quickly builds up in small parts of the home, making your wardrobe a particularly difficult area to keep clean. With everything from oversized parkas to summer shorts donning the shelves, it can be hard to wade through each piece in search for a particular item.

That is, of course, unless you’ve already succumbed to the dreaded floordrobe situation. It’s time to overhaul your wardrobe and achieve a level of organisation that even Marie Kondo would be jealous of. Follow our tips and tricks for an easy wardrobe overhaul.

Declutter with storage

People often assume that you have to throw away a lot of belongings when decluttering, which can put them off. Some things are just too important to throw away whereas others will only be worn during particular seasons. Rather than throwing away your entire winter wardrobe, simply put it into storage for a later date. Storage units are secure and safe, offering you a space to put your clothes and accessories without having to throw them out completely.

This could be anything from seasonal wardrobes to old baby clothes you want to keep for a future child. You’ll have easy access to them too so you can get them out of storage when you really need them. By doing this, you’ll notice an instant reduction of clutter in your wardrobe, which will make it much easier to organise.

Arrange in order

Rather than having a mass of clothes hung up, you should organise them in a particular order. This way you’ll be able to find and grab what you need with ease rather than wading through an unarranged wardrobe packed full to the brim.

How you do this is up to you, but we’d recommend starting with vests, followed by short sleeved t-shirts, long sleeved, jumpers and continuing this way. Others may prefer to colour code their items instead. You’ll know exactly where to look when searching for your favourite sweater this way.

Hanging storage

While a storage unit is great for those things you don’t need on a daily basis – such as winter jumpers in summer – additional hanging storage is helpful for everyday accessories. Shoes can be hung up on racks that hook onto the rail, bags can be stored in hanging door storage and jewellery, too. Everything will have its place, making it easier for you to pick out an outfit in a hurry. It also reduces clutter around the rest of the house – a win-win, in our book.

Think before you buy

Once you’ve decluttered and arranged your clothes, you need to keep on top of your new found organisation habits. Really think before your purchase or you may end up filling your clean wardrobe with more unnecessary things. Question when you’ll wear it and what with – is it a versatile, timeless piece or something you’ll wear once? Take back anything you’re not totally satisfied with and it’ll be easy to keep your wardrobe looking amazingly orderly.
