Safety video

The site operates rolling staircases to access upper floor units. You will need to move this to access your unit if on an upper level, whilst these may also need to be moved by ground floor unit customers if the stairs are blocking access to your unit door.

If your storage unit starts with the letter A, B, C, D or F watch this short instructional video for moving the rolling staircase to these units.

00:00 Welcome to this rolling staircase safety video at our Leeds Ring Road site.
00:03 Access to upper floor units at the site is
00:07 via a rolling staircase. You may also need to move the
00:11 staircase to gain access to lower floor
00:14 units, depending upon the position that the
00:18 staircase was left when last in use.
00:21 When you arrive at site, you will find that each row of units
00:25 has its own dedicated staircase. This is a solid, secure,
00:29 fixed staircase. However, it is of a lightweight design to allow you
00:33 to move it by one person. It's likely that when you
00:37 arrive in site, the staircase will already be locked in place from its
00:41 previous use.
00:43 To release the staircase and allow you to move it, simply come to this
00:47 locking lever. It's a spring-loaded mechanism, so you pull it
00:51 back
00:52 move it to the left-hand side, and that will keep it in its release
00:55 position. What you will notice is that the locking pin has
00:59 disengaged from the locking area on the main
01:03 bar.
01:06 Now, before you start moving the unit, you need to assess that the unit is not
01:10 already in use, there are no obstructions, and other users are not going to be
01:13 affected by you using the unit. So firstly, just check on the upper
01:17 floor that the upper floor unit is not already in use.
01:21 Likewise, check the row of units where you're going to be
01:25 travelling and make sure there's no customers already inside those
01:28 units.
01:31 Now I've checked that the area is okay and that we're all good to move it, I'm
01:35 simply just going to push
01:37 the staircase along
01:39 until the top platform is aligned with the storage unit I wish
01:43 to enter.
01:47 Once I've got it roughly aligned, what I can do then is come
01:51 back to the locking lever. I'm going to release the locking
01:54 lever by moving it to the right and letting the spring-loaded
01:58 mechanism push the locking bar back onto the main
02:02 unit. Now, at this stage, you may need to make some small adjustments
02:06 so that the locking pin engages with its locking u-
02:10 locking bar on this main unit.
02:15 We'll just make a small adjustment, nudging that along
02:20 until we hear the pin lock in. Now the unit is
02:23 securely in place, I'm free to access the storage
02:27 unit.
